Take the Time to Listen

Have you ever talked with God? I mean really talk to Him? I’m currently reading a book that discusses how to do so and I’m discovering some rather interesting theories.

I’m learning that talking to God is different for everyone. There are those who actually hear or feel God’s voice. There are others who hear a little voice in their head, but aren’t quite sure where that voice is coming from. For most, it’s more in the form of thoughts. Some of those thoughts come out of nowhere, yet you’re pretty sure some came from God because of the positive direction they provide. I fall into this latter category.

I would love to hear God’s actual voice. I will someday, but so far, I’ve been unable to do so. I’ve tried listening, but most of the time thoughts come racing through my head breaking my concentration. For the longest time, I dispelled those thoughts and discarded them as nuisance, but after reading this book, I’m beginning to pay attention.

I always thought those stray thoughts were Satan’s attempt to keep me from communicating with God and some of that may be going on, but I’m learning to pay attention and see what those thoughts are telling me. Sometimes the thoughts I’m getting are significant and are obviously from God because they’re encouraging me down a positive path.

When I first began writing this blog a little over a year ago, I did so because this random thought came to me. At the time, I wasn’t sure where the idea had come from. I am now convinced it was God encouraging me to do something with the journey I’m on to help others. That wasn’t something I would have cooked up on my own and it definitely didn’t come from Satan. It wasn’t a money-making adventure as I make no money from this blog and it wasn’t something designed to promote or market myself. In fact, I don’t market my blog. Although some of my blogs have been on display on the MGFA website, unless you were someone who happened to search Myasthenia Gravis on the internet and ran into my site, you probably would have no clue my blog even existed.

In other words, the whole intent of my blog is to help others. Granted, I also get helped by being able to share my thoughts, my wins, and my frustrations, but I could probably get the same by just journaling and never publishing my thoughts. No, publishing is being done for a reason: to let anyone suffering from Myasthenia Gravis or anyone caring for or loving a person with Myasthenia Gravis, know that they are not alone. It takes courage. It takes strength. It takes resilience. It takes perseverance. It takes encouragement.

I’m convinced it was God talking to me and encouraging me to do something positive with my experience.

Regardless of your relationship with God, regardless of your affiliation with any particular religion, thoughts come into our heads. It’s our job to take the time to listen to those thoughts, sorting out those that lead down a positive path and discarding those that don’t. You can believe what you want about who placed those thoughts there. I, for one, believe that God initiates positive thoughts and opens up opportunities for us to do something worthwhile.

I encourage you to open your heart and mind to the thoughts you are receiving. Go someplace quiet, get in the proper mood and allow those thoughts to come in. You’ll know when you’re being guided down a right path. It simply feels right.

It’s not enough to just listen, however. It’s up to us to follow those thoughts and turn them into reality. It’s only then that we begin to see the silver lining in those MG clouds. It’s only then that we begin to understand God’s blessings and make the decision to share those blessings with others.
