Stress

Do you ever get overwhelmed with stress? It’s pretty common, especially for those of us with Myasthenia Gravis. Not only do we have to face medical problems and personal issues, but we’re also affected by everything going on around us. It’s a lot to handle.

Myasthenia Gravis is a major deal. I’m fortunate that my medication works for me and keeps my symptoms pretty much under control. We’ve had to increase the dosage, but for the most part, it keeps my symptoms within a tolerable range. Hopefully, you’re also in that position where your meds are working for you and allowing you to live a full life.

Unfortunately, MG is probably not the only medical condition we have to deal with. Whether it’s heart disease, cancer, diabetes, or a host of other problems, these issues only complicate our lives and our goal of keeping stress in our lives to a minimum.

Now you add on personal challenges, whether they be relationship problems, financial problems, kid problems, or the likes. Each of these add an additional layer of stress to our lives.

We haven’t even gotten into external stressors yet. Natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, droughts, tornadoes, hurricanes, and wildfires are happening everywhere. To top it off, our government is shut down, crime is rampant, and we have a huge unidentified object hurling through our solar system that may or may not be aliens.

So, how do we deal with stress? I’ve learned the hard way that you can’t handle stress on your own. I’ve even gotten to the point where trying to handle stress became an additional stressor. Some people may benefit from professional counseling. I find my best source of comfort comes from God.

I know that God has me in His hand. However life is trying to affect me, God is right by my side. I may still have to deal with stress, but I’m no longer alone in doing so.

When I place my worries on His altar, I can breathe. I know there is nothing too difficult for God to handle. Things may not be progressing as quickly as I’d like and the outcomes may not be what I had hoped for, but giving my stress to God helps me through anything I may be facing. I give all my troubles to Him, because He cares for me.

It took me years to understand this concept, and I’m not perfect yet. Even now, my initial tendency is to start working on a plan when I’m forced to deal with stress. I’ve learned a calming secret, however. When I feel stress building, I take a deep breath, then just breathe and call upon my Father in heaven. He promised to hear us in time of need and he hasn’t let me down yet.

Yes, I have struggles. Yes, I have MG. Yes, I have other health issues. Yes, there are all kinds of things going on around me that cause stress. Yes, there is an unknown object traveling through our solar system. But I’m alive. I’m breathing. I’m not just surviving; I’m doing well. And that’s because God has my hand.

When stress becomes too much for you, remember that you don’t have to handle it alone. God is just waiting for you to turn to Him.
