Those of you who have been reading my blogs know that it’s been a long Myasthenia Gravis journey for me and my family. My family has been there for me the entire time and they’ve supported me even when I probably didn’t deserve it. I’m not always the easiest person to be around. I have my strengths, like being kind, treating people well, and being compassionate and encouraging. I also have my weaknesses, like being opinionated, short-tempered and intolerant. While I can’t blame MG entirely for bringing out more of my weaknesses than usual in the last few years, it may have played at least a tiny role. For those times of weaknesses, I apologize, but my family has continued to stand beside me through it all.

June is MG Awareness Month. Having only recently being diagnosed with MG, this is my first MG Awareness Month in which I will participate. I’ve been quite busy and am proud of the fact that I’m trying to make a difference. I’ve started an MG fundraising page and this blog. For the month of June, I’ve bathed our house in teal-colored lights (the official color of MG), and have proudly displayed the MG Awareness Month sign on our front lawn. I wear my teal-colored MG bracelet. Not bad for a first-time supporter.

What I’m especially proud of, however, are my daughters. Not only have they also bathed their houses in teal-colored lights and display the MG sign on their lawns, but they’ve taken it a step further. My oldest daughter recently shared the MG story with a group of peers during “Culture Moments” at work. My youngest daughter has included MG awareness in her social media postings. Neither of them needed to do this, they just did.

When my family and I talk about MG to others, it’s not about drawing attention to ourselves. It’s about raising awareness and encouraging donations to research. We come together for a cause.

I couldn’t be prouder of my family. Having their support and knowing they are helping raise awareness means everything to me.

Support is everything! Especially when it comes in forms of medical staff, friends, and family. 🙏❤️

    1. Thank you, Denise. You are so right about medical staff, friends and family. I appreciate you reading my blog and commenting. It’s not only therapy for me, but hopefully it will help others.
