MGFA Food Support Program

Yesterday I received an email from MGFA (Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America) launching their MGFA Food Support Program. This program helps support the wellbeing of MG patients and their families through free, nutritious meals delivered to their homes. I receive these emails because I subscribe to their mailings list. If you’re not currently receiving information from MGFA through emails on any of the programs MGFA has to offer, you may want to consider subscribing.

According to yesterday’s email, the Food Support Program aims to remove barriers to proper nutrition by helping individuals with Myasthenia Gravis improve their daily quality of life, treatment adherence, and overall health.

The email says research indicates that social determinants of health, including food insecurity, can negatively impact a patient’s ability to stick with their MG treatment plan. In addition, profound fatigue, muscle weakness, and difficulty chewing or swallowing, (which are typical symptoms of Myasthenia Gravis), often limit meal preparation or nutritional intake. For this reason, MGFA and their partners have decided to do something to help.

The goals of the Food Support Program are to help families impacted by MG to:

  • Eat healthier, more nutritious meals
  • Worry less about the cost of eating right
  • Reduce stress around meal preparation
  • Spend less time preparing meals, thereby saving energy for what truly matters

Under this program, MGFA, along with their partners UCB, Argenx, and NMD Pharma, will deliver meals to 250 families impacted by MG this year. Meal deliveries will begin in June and continue through December 2026. To be considered for the program:

  • You or a member of your immediate household must have a confirmed MG diagnosis
  • You must demonstrate financial need and/or food access challenges
  • You should have access to a stove, oven, or microwave to prepare meals

If you fit these three criteria and would like to be considered for help in improving the nutritional aspect of your MG treatment, you can learn more about the program by going to the MGFA website at: https://myasthenia.org/mgfa-food-support-program/?vcrmeid=YI2oeLxjs06uW36CzY02aQ&vcrmiid=8vJHmTxrPUSSS2u5qme5zA

This is an amazing offer for those MG patients and their families who are struggling and I highly encourage you to read more about the program at the MGFA site listed above. Remember: You must submit your application by May 20, 2026, in order to be considered.
