A Prayer for Those With MG

I read a post recently that said:

“Dear Lord, thank you for my job, but if winning the lottery is in your plans for me, I just wanted you to know I was open to it.”

While I got a chuckle out of this post, it also made me think. Not only was this person appreciative of what he/she had, but they were also asking, be it in a discreet way, for abundance.

When you have Myasthenia Gravis or other type of chronic condition, it’s not always easy to remember to thank God for all He has given you. In fact, sometimes we can get downright angry that He has allowed us to be burdened with MG. The reality is, no matter how tough it seems, we’re still alive. We’re still breathing the air, smelling the roses, eating fine chocolates and indulging in all that is decadent. We’re still enjoying our family and friends. We’re still watching our favorite TV shows. We’re still kicking. We may not kick as high as we used to, but we’re kicking nonetheless. For those things, we need to be thankful, even if it’s not the life we had hoped for, even if we’re not living the dream.

It’s not enough to say the words, however. We must mean them. When we truly feel the words of thanks coming from deep down inside us, that’s when God hears them. He listens to what comes out of our mouths, but He feels what comes out of our hearts. That’s why it’s so important to appreciate whatever He allows us to enjoy.

He also tells us to “ask and it will be given you, seek and you shall find, knock and it will be opened unto you”. That means He wants us to ask for what is in our hearts.

There will be times when God answers our prayers completely, providing exactly what we asked for. There will also be times when he provides exactly what we need, which could be different than what we originally asked. There could be times when He says “No”, because it’s not in our best interest or not in the plan He has established for us. And then, of course, there will be times when he tells us to “Wait”. Sometimes waiting is the toughest. It can be so tough, we assume it’s a “No” and lose faith. God tells us not to give up; to keep praying. He will answer us in the way that is appropriate for us.

So, if you have Myasthenia Gravis, or know someone who does, pray along with me:

Heavenly Father, You created all things. I am so thankful for the life You have given me, the family and friends with whom You’ve surrounded me, for the caregivers that help and protect me, and for the strength You’ve given me to keep fighting. I ask that You continue to provide, continue to bless me, my loved ones, and all those who need Your blessings. I ask for a cure for all those who are suffering from Myasthenia Gravis or any other chronic condition. I ask for patience and understanding as I respect Your decision. I know You have a plan for me and I ask for Your strength and guidance to help me accomplish Your plan. I pray in faith that Your will be done, for You alone know what’s best for me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

If this prayer comes from your heart, God will listen. He will provide what is in our best interest and in accordance with the plan He has for us. Don’t fight that plan; give into it. He has your hand, now give Him your heart.
