Father’s Day is a time to honor the fathers in your life. They are the men who have shaped you with their guidance, love, and strength.
For families affected by Myasthenia Gravis (MG), this day can carry an even deeper meaning. My two daughters always make this day special for me, but since being diagnosed with MG, I feel it even deeper in the strength my family provides. The strength they share with me, gives me the strength to go on, to try harder, to fight.
Although this blog is supposed to be about my journey with MG, in today’s blog, I want to honor all the fathers with MG and the families that support them.
Whether you’re a father living with MG, or someone who loves and supports a dad battling this condition, today is a chance to reflect on what true strength really looks like.
MG is a neuromuscular disorder which causes weakness in the voluntary muscles. It can make even the simplest of tasks, like holding a child, playing catch, or reading a bedtime story, more difficult. But fathers with MG show us every day that strength isn’t just about muscles. It’s about perseverance, love, and the ability to keep showing up, even on hard days.
To the fathers with MG, your courage doesn’t go unnoticed. You may face fatigue, double vision, or muscle weakness, but you meet these challenges with dignity. You teach your children perseverance, compassion, and how to rise above adversity. You redefine what it means to be a hero – not with capes, but with quiet determination. You teach your children and grandchildren resilience because when the going gets tough, the tough get going.
To the children and loved ones of a father with MG, your support makes all the difference. Your understanding, patience, and love, give him the strength to push forward. When you adjust plans, lend a hand, or simply listen, you’re helping him face the invisible battle MG brings each day. Your encouragement makes him try harder. Your tough love, when he needs it the most, keeps him from giving up.
This Father’s Day, let’s celebrate not only the traditional image of a strong dad, but also the extraordinary fathers who navigate life with MG. Their stories deserve to be shared, honored, and supported. MG may change how a father moves, but it can never diminish the love he gives or the example he sets.
Happy Father’s Day to all the MG dads. You are powerful in ways that words can never express.
