Valentine’s Day

Just a quick one today, but I didn’t want to miss a Valentine’s Day blog.

Let’s start with a joke:

A man was in a long distance relationship with a woman. He walks into a post office to buy stamps for the Valentine’s Day card he is going to send to her.

He asks the clerk, “Do you have any special Valentine’s Day stamps?

The clerk replies, “Yes, we do! They say ‘Forever Love.’”

The man thinks to himself for a moment and then says, “Do you have any that say ‘Temporary Infatuation’?”

On this Valentine’s Day, I’m going to ask you to do one thing. Think of all the people that love you, that care about you, that help you, that support you.

We often just take these people for granted. The reality is each of us has a full team of people that fall into one of these categories. There’s no better time to tell them how much you really love and appreciate them than today.

I know we often think of Valentine’s Day is being reserved for romantic love, but if you think back, it wasn’t always that way. Remember when you were a 1st grader in elementary school. You brought Valentines for everyone in your class. That’s because you freely gave your love to everyone. It didn’t matter who they were or what their preferences were, they received your valentine.

That’s the epitome of innocence and we need to get back to those days. Saying “I Love You” to someone can mean anything, from romantic to “I really appreciate you”. Instead of being reserved for that one special person, we need to say it to everyone we care about.

I admit, I’m not good at saying “I love you”. In my heart, I mean it, but the words don’t frequently come out of my mouth. I guess I’m just assuming people will know I love them by the way I treat them, but that’s being pretty presumptuous. So, today I’m going to follow my own advice. I’m going to tell the people I care about that I love them and I invite you to do the same.

Happy Valentine’s Day! I love you!

    1. Thank you, Anita. We love you, too. You’re beyond a good friend, you’re part of our family. You will always be Momma-2 in my book.
