I received a note recently from one of my readers asking where I get my topics on which to write. I’d love to tell you they come from divine intervention, but if that were so, you wouldn’t find me on ChatGPT looking up jokes.
On the other hand, sometimes God plants the thought of a topic in my head. He also gives me the inspiration and ability to write about that topic, so divine intervention is definitely at play, it’s just that I would never call any of my writings worthy enough to be called divine.
Sometimes the subjects I write about are inspired by you, my readers. Your comments and emails help spark the old creative juices. Sometimes subjects of my blogs are inspired by current events. They may also be inspired by memories. And then, of course, there are those times when I sit down to write and have nothing. My fingers are willing, but my mind is weak. That’s when my old friend ChatGPT gets a visit.
Did you know if you ask ChatGPT for a joke, it will always start with a short one? I actually have to tell it to give me a longer joke. Sometimes the jokes it provides are funny, but sometimes they’re rather lame. Sometimes I have to tell it to keep searching until I find one I like and one I can relate in some way to Myasthenia Gravis.
Sometimes, when I sit down to write, my fingers start going and words magically appear. It’s like my brain isn’t telling my fingers to write those words, but they happen. That’s when I know God is involved. And, I’ve got to tell you, those blogs usually end up being some of the best blogs I’ve written. I suppose, of course, that’s because my mind didn’t write them; my soul did with God leading the way.
Sometimes I begin writing about a topic and by the end, I’m on a completely different subject. I call those Random Thoughts. It’s when one thought inspires another. The path I take to a message isn’t always straight but sometimes a crooked path provides the most enjoyable journey.
So, to sum it up, I don’t really have a good answer to this lady’s question. I simply write and let God and my Random Thoughts guide me to a message.
I don’t profess to be a good writer. I just hope my words will touch someone’s life in a way that makes things better. I don’t always accomplish my goal, but from some of the amazing comments I’ve received, I know I’ve touched a few. That makes me want to keep writing.
