“Certainly I Will Be With You”

In the third chapter of Exodus, we read the story about how God called Moses to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt. Moses initially questioned God’s decision, after all, he was a fugitive, had few skills, and he spoke with a stutter. But God’s response was clear. God told Moses, “Certainly I will be with you.”

For those of us with Myasthenia Gravis, we often feel like life is overwhelming. We convince ourselves that only we know what we are going through and we’re alone in our battle, but that’s the wrong way to look at things. God is with us. He sees our struggles and He has our hand. That’s the promise he made to all who believe.

When things get tough, we need not carry the burden of worry alone. Instead, we need to give our concerns and cares to Him. He’s provided us with the strength and ability to get through anything as long as we remain steadfast in our faith.

There are times when I find myself getting depressed, and often it includes more than just dealing with MG. Sometimes it feels like the weight of the world is on my shoulders. The thing I’m forgetting is that God has promised never to give me more than I can handle and that He would be there with me to help me through.

Most of you know my wife and I recently moved to Missouri to be closer to our grandkids. As I write this, my 7-year-old grandson is in the hospital with an infection he’s been fighting for several weeks. He’s so young. I wish I could take this pain and fight this battle for him, but I can’t. It’s so easy to feel helpless in this situation, but I’m not helpless.  I have the power of prayer, and the comfort of knowing that God will certainly be with both my grandson and me. God’s got this. I only need to trust Him and be patient as He takes my grandson down this path.

Sometimes the most difficult challenge is giving our worries to God. From a young age we’re taught to be strong and to take on challenges on our own. There’s nothing wrong with that philosophy. But when we reach a point where we are no longer pushing forward, where the challenge seems to be overwhelming, that’s when we need God’s help. He will certainly be with us if we just put our trust in Him. We don’t need to do it alone. Sometimes, the path upon which he takes us isn’t the path we anticipated. That’s when we need to prove our faith by trusting Him. We work through trial and error. God works through knowledge and power.

I ask for your prayers for my grandson. Prayers are powerful. Ask God to help him to heal quickly and get back to enjoying life as a 7-year-old. I don’t know why this had to happen, but I understand this little bump in the road will make him stronger, just like the little bump in the road called Myasthenia Gravis has made me stronger in faith and trust in our Lord.

You’re never alone if you turn to God.

He will do all things for those who believe in Him.
