I took a look at the news this morning and nearly every headline was negative. Even if there was positive content, the article spent more time talking about the negative component.
As humans, we tend to do the same thing. We focus on the troubles we’re facing, or we worry about what could happen rather than focusing on how blessed we really are.
God promised to take care of us, and He always keeps His promise. It may not be in the way we foresee or in the timeframe we would have liked, but if we put our trust in Him, He will help us through.
We recently put our house in Louisiana up for sale during a period where there was a lot of competition in the market. There were tons of houses for sale, but few buyers. We wanted to move closer to our grandkids. We also wanted to get out of the heat, humidity, and threat of hurricanes in Louisiana. The oppressive summer heat and humidity was very tough on me with Myasthenia Gravis. Although summers can be hot in Missouri, the humidity is lower and nights cool down, so life would be a little more bearable.
When we first thought about putting the house up for sale, I immediately jumped into my worry mode. I worried it wouldn’t sell. I worried we wouldn’t be able to find a house in Missouri. I worried about finding a moving company. I worried about everything you could possibly worry about. What I forgot to do was give it all to God.
Once I gave all my worries to Him, things began happening. Very quickly we had an offer on our house in Louisiana and went into contract. I got a couple of bids from movers and one was very reasonable. The movers came, the house closed and we were on our way to Missouri. God handled everything.
We planned to stay with my daughter and her family while we looked for houses. The very first weekend, we found the perfect house for us. It was new construction but already finished. It was in a gated community, had all the amenities we were looking for, was within our price range, and best of all, since it was newly constructed, we won’t have to worry about appliances failing, the HVAC going out, the roof leaking, or all the other things you have to consider when purchasing a previously owned home. God had our backs.
While this method worked in that particular situation, it also applies to other things in life, like having Myasthenia Gravis. When you have Myasthenia Gravis, or any other type of chronic condition, it’s so easy to fall into the trap of focusing on the negative or worrying about what’s to come. If we give those worries to God, He’ll watch over us and make sure all our needs are met. Instead of focusing on what we don’t have, we need to do a better job of focusing on all God has provided. We’re blessed in so many ways; we just need to recognize and appreciate all the blessings.
If you find yourself worrying or getting down, have that talk with God. Tell Him what’s bothering you and then trust that He will help you through the burden. Sometimes He’ll lift the burden completely, and sometimes He’ll help us handle the burden more easily, but He’ll be there for you if you just turn to Him.
I’m so thankful I gave my worry to God and thankful also that He is blessing us with a new home. We’re so looking forward to moving in. One of the best parts is we’ll no longer have to miss our grandkids’ events. I’m also very thankful that God helps me through life and especially with my battle with MG. I couldn’t do it without Him. Give your worries to Him and watch how His blessings overflow.
